Like much of project management, updating the workplan requires discipline and habit. See how these steps can help you stay on top of the process.
1. Create your project plan with your milestone list
2. Create at the appropriate hook within your plan, a blank milestone for the gate
3. while activating the project, make sure all work-plan beyond the gate will be placed on-hold (as it is depent on the decision taken on the gate)
4. while reaching the gate, make sure that milestone is active
5. If decision was taken to continue (approval and gate should be opened), complete the milestone and activate the sequencing work plan (e.g. next milestones)
6. otherwise, you can either cancel the entire project as well as the gate milestone or only the sequencing work-plan, so that you will have a clear understanding at what point the project was cancelled.
