Mike put some left over metal shelving to good use to create a really nice and simple DIY laptop stand.
MAKE Instructable group member FatPeter made this really nice laptop stand from angle brackets, he writes - “I was never that happy with using a laptop flat on the desk: it’s really bad for your posture. I looked at laptop stands and there are some nice ones, but expensive and have features like tilt and swivel which serve no purpose to me.
Somewhat reminiscent of the Dell XPS M2010 is this custom-built laptop featured over at mini-itx.com. First and foremost, I’ll give props to Torquil, the creator, for managing to build a completely customizable laptop, even though it is a bit big. Now that the props are out of the way I will have to point my finger and laugh at the mirror finish. Why would anybody want to design and build something of this magnitude then give it a mirror finish? Even though it is a pretty good project, it is like a train wreck. I just can’t look away. Sorry, Torquil.

Zengineer used one of those paper/letter holders to make a quick and dirty laptop stand - "I find myself using my laptop for long periods of time. I also notice that I am slouching when I use my notebook as it forces me to bend my neck to look downwards. Heres a simple notebook stand that will rise your monitor to a near eye level."

Nospleen writes "I always use my laptop on my lap, and it tends to get really hot. I looked online for some kind of stand, but they were all really expensive. I made my own out of a scrap of plywood and some rubber. Now the laptop sits nicely on my lap and still has airflow around it."

For those of you who can't stand being separated from your notebook, this DIY car stand lets you take your lappie on the road. It's made of PVC pipes and keeps your laptop at an adjustable angle.
Rain Design, makers of the iLap and iWoofer, are selling an iLevel, “a new laptop stand that will will ‘raise’ laptop use comfort to another ‘level’.”
My preferred writing mode is in, or on, a bed or couch, stretched out with my laptop in front of me. For a long time, I used a Targus laptop desk that I originally bought for travel. I like it very much, but I don’t much like having the weight of the laptop on my thighs for hours at a time.
IKEA becomes iKea at the IKEA Hacker blog. Amidst the somewhat overwhelming number of slipcover projects, there are a few tech-related gems, such as this cheapo notebook stand made from two $9 Slinga brackets and a piece of wood, and a DIY light tent for macro photography. You'll find a a whole lot of innovative mods to standard household items, from charging stations to home cinema projector screens.
The forthcoming Logitech Alto laptop stand is a nice compromise between a dock and just plunking your lappie down on your desk. The stand comes with a full-sized keyboard and three extra USB ports. Folds away when you're done, too. Link (via Wonderland)
