24. Batman: The Movie
The popular but campy 1960s Batman television series spawned one feature film, the delightfully wacky Batman: The Movie. In this cinematic gem, we finally learn the extent of Batman's utility belt (yes, it even holds shark repellent). The film put the finishing strokes on the 1960s Batman, who would forever be replaced by the more brooding (and let's face it, more true-to-comics) vigilante, but we will always hold a special place in our hearts for the "Bam! Zip! Zam!" action graphics. -CC
23. Dick Tracy
Wearing his trademark eye-piercing yellow trench coat, matching fedora and wrist watch communicator, Warren Beatty makes the classic comics come to life on screen. The supporting cast includes a rogues gallery a colorful characters played by some of Hollywood's greats, including Dustin Hoffman as Mumbles and Al Pacino as Big Boy Caprice. To top it all off, Madonna is the breathy seductress Breathless Mahony and Warren Beatty does double duty as director. It ain't exactly great art, but it's hard to argue against Dick Tracy as a fun and fitting comic tribute. -JO
22. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
T.U.R.T.L.E. Power was in full effect in this live action adaptation of Eastman and Laird's edgy comic. Tamed considerably, this film launched the Turtles franchise into the stratosphere, and prompted two lackluster sequels (although one featured Vanilla Ice's "Go ninja, go ninja, go!" rap). As an ensemble superhero film, it is one of the better ones out there, despite an absolutely lame Master Splinter training sequence. -CC
21. The Crow
Based on the comic book series created by James O'Barr, 1994's The Crow tells the tale of a rock guitarist named Eric (Brandon Lee), who is killed, along with his fiancee, by a gang of criminals. One year later Eric is resurrected and given powers of invincibility by a crow; he then proceeds to take his revenge upon his killers. Stylishly directed by Alex Proyas (Dark City, I, Robot), the film's production suffered a tragedy when Lee (son of martial arts legend Bruce Lee) was killed on set by a gun shot during filming. -BZ
